Mindmapping with MindMeister

MindMeister mindmap of InternetBusinessExaminar.netMindMeister is an awesome mindmapping tool.

What is mindmapping you ask?

Mindmapping is a nifty term which you can think of as free-form brainstorming done visually. The process is easy and fun because it is visual so it makes you think differently than just writing an outline of your brainstorming session.

Mindmaps can be used for any project you are working on from writing an article or book, to planning the layout of a website (which I did for this site), to creating visual information to add to a presentation and so much more!

The cool thing about mindmapping is you just throw out your ideas and organize them on the fly. It’s really easy to add new ideas to a mindmap and move them around quickly so you don’t lose your creative energy while brainstorming. Plus you can add notes or images to each idea for even more detail.

Viewing your mindmap is easy because you can zoom in and out as needed. You can zoom out to view the map as a whole, or zoom in to focus in on an individual idea.

Multiple export options make it easy to turn your mindmap into a PDF, image, or convert it to a text based outline form for moving to the next phase of the project. With MindMeister you get more export options with a paid account but the export options with the free account are more than enough to get you up and running for almost any project.

MindMeister works across all platforms from your desktop, to tablets and smart phones (either Android or iOS). Plus it stays in sync across all devices you use so when you move from one device to another you are always working on your current maps.

MindMeister offers both free and paid accounts.

Benefits of a free MindMeister account include:

  • You can create up to 3 different mindmaps
  • Export your mindmap to PDF, image (PNG or JPG), or as a text outline.
    • The text export is very useful if you are using your mindmap for a writing project such as a book or article, or for laying out a website.
  • Share your mindmap with others via an email link so you can collaborate on the map together or set the map as public so anyone can view the map online

There are currently 3 paid MindMeister account options (personal, pro, or business) which offer more features including:

  • Unlimited mindmaps
  • Off-line access
  • Additional export options (varies by edition)
  • email support (varies by edition)
  • An affiliate link to earn cash when someone signs up for a paid account

There are discounted paid options available if you use MindMeister for education as a student, educator or school.

The bottom line:

MindMeister is an awesome tool and I would strongly recommend you check it out!

It’s a fun to use, and it will help you think about *and* look at your projects from a different perspective.
